 How to Discover Your Talent

How to Identify Talent

A person can discover their talents by following a set of steps, including:

  1. Identify what you enjoy doing: The person should write a list of activities they enjoy and things they lose track of time while doing.
  2. Know your interests: Interests revolve around hobbies, things the person loves to learn, read, or watch. Identifying these interests helps discover what they feel passionate about.
  3. Review past successes: The person can write down past accomplishments and the talents they used without realizing them, as they might rediscover them.
  4. Take some tests: There are great tests that provide insights into one's personality and help identify tendencies and talents, such as Myers-Briggs, DISC, or even the book 'Please, Pleasant Me' by Kiersey.
  5. Ask for help: The person can talk to family members or friends to ask them about past successes, good qualities, and skills they have, as an external perspective can often be clearer than the internal one.
  6. Know your weaknesses: It is essential to identify weaknesses because recognizing them can help highlight strengths.
  7. Review written lists: The person should review all the lists of skills, weaknesses, strengths, and past successes to notice recurring talents and choose one to focus on.
  8. Practice: The person should master the talent they enjoy to gain proficiency. If busy, they can dedicate half an hour daily to practice.
  9. Find a coach: The person can seek an expert to help develop their existing talents, as they can provide valuable advice and support, especially if the person decides to continue practicing.

Steps to Discover Talent

There are a few steps that help a person discover their talent:

  1. Inventory personal skills and talents and things the person loves to do.
  2. Avoid focusing on others' criticisms and not caring about them.
  3. Think passionately about things you love.
  4. Notice the things you never get bored of doing.
  5. Engage in doing what you love and enjoy it.

Set realistic goals for talents.

People often dream of having a talent that leads to fame, such as excelling in sports, singing, music, or other talents that may lead to quick recognition. However, this is not always realistic because not everyone can achieve this, and most people will have an interest in other personal skills. Many may have real talents in various fields, which could lead to becoming a successful doctor, a wonderful teacher, or a talented designer. Therefore, a person should focus on their true talent and give it the attention it deserves.
